A planning application was submitted to Nottingham City Council on Thursday, October 12

The site of a derelict historic church in Bestwood is to be turned into flats for the homeless. The area off Padstow Road, on which St Matthew On The Hill used to stand, will be transformed into 15 "units of supported accomodation" by housing charity Framework if plans submitted to Nottingham City Council are approved.

The vacant site is currently owned by the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham. Planning documents submitted by the architects in charge of the site say that the "Diocese has expressed a wish that the site is made use of, in a manner in keeping with their aims of supporting those in need." St Matthew On The Hill was completed in 1959 and opened on October 10 that year. It served the community throughout the 20th century but was damaged in an arson attack in 2009 and never fully recovered, with damage costs estimated at around £300,000.
