Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, who has firmly opposed issuing coronavirus safety measures amid a surge of cases in his state, announced that he tested positive for the virus by AndrewSolender
“I got tested yesterday for COVID-19 and the results came back positive,” Stitt said during aStitt said he’s isolating away from his family and working from home “until it’s safe to get back to normal,” and that he’s working with contact tracers to determine how he became infected.“I just want to take a minute to remind Oklahomans, Covid-19 is still in the United States, it’s still in Oklahoma,” Stitt said. “We need to take this virus very seriously.
” However, Stitt said he’s “not thinking about a mask mandate at all," and that there’s “plenty of runway” regarding hospital bed and medical equipment capacity.Stitt’s refusal to issue a mask mandate has faced opposition from some lawmakers in the state. “In order to limit the spread of Covid-19, we must follow the directives of the CDC and our health care professionals, all of which advocate for the widespread use of masks,”State Rep. Jason Lowe, a Democrat, on Tuesday.
