Sonny Styles was officially named a starter on Monday.
The former five-star recruit has flashed to everyone — on both the offense and defense sides of the ball — from coaches and players. The key, though, is getting the 6-foot-4 standout into advantageous spots on the field. The Buckeyes won’t have trouble getting him to match up well against opponents, but they’ll have to be smart about how they use him, and in what situations.
The rest of the secondary battle will continue, with three players in contention for one spot on the back-end. “Ja’Had’s doing well,” Knowles said. “Been banged up a little bit. In that high-safety area, you’re looking at Lathan for sure. And then you’re looking at Protcor, Malik and Ja’Had. Really, those three are fighting it our for that other position. There’s very much a competition going on for that other spot.”
