The Special Constable was dismissed and banned from policing at a behind-closed-doors misconduct hearing

A Nottinghamshire Police Special Constable was dismissed after he viewed body-worn video footage of Nottingham attacks victims Grace O'Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Webber being treated by medics in the street, Nottinghamshire Live can exclusively reveal. The Special Constable has been barred from working as a police officer and was dismissed at a behind-closed-doors accelerated misconduct hearing, details of which have only just come to light.

The then-Special Constable viewed the footage on August 31 last year but there was no evidence of any images or videos being downloaded or shared. Nottinghamshire Live can also reveal a separate member of Nottinghamshire policing staff has been arrested and interviewed on suspicion of accessing evidence on police systems when they had no legitimate policing purpose to do so.

The police handling of the attacks has been heavily criticised by the families of the victims who said they'd only found out through the media about a recent public misconduct hearing that's taken place. As a result of that hearing, police officer Matt Gell received a final written warning after the hearing was told he had shared information about the attacks in a text message and breached confidentiality standards. While another officer received "management intervention".

Nottinghamshire Police's deputy chief constable Steve Cooper has made clear the force's Professional Standards Directorate found one message posted on a WhatsApp Group in which "some of the words were crude and distasteful but insisted it was a single message and no images were taken or shared".
