Police accused two men of selling overpriced cars with rolled back odometers and Harrisburg Football Coach Calvin Everett of advertising dozens of cars on Craigslist.

Calvin Everett, Harrisburg head coach against Carlisle in high school football at Harrisburg. September 25 , 2021 Sean Simmers |[email protected] High School football coach Calvin Everett advertised 46 cars for sale since 2020, including one for two Harrisburg men who police say had a scheme to roll back odometers, cheating buyers out of thousands of dollars, according to court records.

Police linked him to the case after getting a search warrant for the Craigslist account that posted advertisements for dozens of vehicles, including at least one that had a tampered odometer, which came back to his “cougarcoach” email address. She ordered a CarFax report for the vehicle the next day only to find out it had been serviced in Alexandria Virginia in January with 320,172 miles logged on it at the time. The vehicle was sold to Keith Fry for $2,800 on March 19, resulting in a nearly $4,000 profit after he sold the altered vehicle to the woman, according to court records.

Police then obtained search warrants for Earnest and Keith’s homes in Harrisburg and served them May 13.Officers found a “car scan reader” in its box in a dining room cabinet at Earnest’s home in the 2600 block of Derry Street. Such readers have software that can change the mileage displayed on an odometer, police said.

Officers then went to Keith’s home in the 1800 block of Green Street, where they say they found more month insert stickers, a counterfeit emissions sticker and a “OBD scanner” which can have software that can change odometers. Police charged Earnest Fry, 47, with 45 felonies, including: 9 counts of dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities 9 counts of theft by deception 9 counts of deceitful business practices; 9 counts of washing vehicle titles, and 9 counts of tampering with public records. He also was charged with 20 misdemeanor charges, including making false application for title registrations and changing odometer readings.
