OAKLAND — Reginald Freeman announced Wednesday he will retire as chief of the Oakland Fire Department and accept a high-level job in the private sector., said in a department-wide email that his last day will be June 22, before he begins at the new “C-suite level” position.
“This has been a painful and very difficult decision but one that was made collectively as a family,” the chief said in the email. “I am so proud of each and every one of you and all that you do.
