A 29-year-old man and two women have been charged with crimes related to the trafficking of a 14-year-old.
OAKLAND — A 29-year-old Oakland resident has been charged with trafficking a 14-year-old girl who ran away from the Fresno area and was allegedly taken all over California by the suspect and his “team of prostitutes,” according to court records.
Algernon Steen was charged with human trafficking, pimping, pandering and being a felon in possession of a firearm, court records show. Two women, ages 28 and 29, were charged with accessory after the fact. Both were sex workers who worked for Steen, according to police. Steen has pleaded not guilty and remains in Santa Rita Jail, where he is being held without bail. Both women have been released on their own recognizance.
According to Oakland police, the girl identified Steen as her pimp and said he had trafficked her in “San Francisco, Vallejo, and Los Angeles.” She also told police “she had lived with Steen and the rest of his team since April.” Three guns during a search of Steen’s home, police said. Steen has prior convictions, in 2013, for human trafficking and pimping, according to the criminal complaint.
