Harlan Harleigh Aguirre scores in the second inning. O’Connor defeated Harlan 3-1 in a softball on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Northside Field No. 2 .Knowing her team needed a spark, O’Connor senior Leighann Goode stretched an apparent single into a double after knocking a soft liner down the right field line to open the sixth inning.
Goode stole third on the next pitch and scored on second baseman Jada Munoz’s single. First baseman Ella Gonzales followed with a two-run homer to give O’Connor a rare come-from-behind victory. Goode, who struck out looking in the third, set a much-needed aggressive tone for the Panthers in the sixth.
“Honestly, I was scared,” Munoz said. “I knew Leighann was in scoring position and I knew I had to put the barrel to the ball and hit it to the right side on the ground for her score. I was waiting for that perfect pitch to do so, and I did.”
