The first episode airs tonight
A mum's treatment after she severely dislocated her ankle in a fun run will be included in the first Nottingham-based episode of 24 Hours in A&E. The first of the series, set to air on Channel 4 at 9pm on Tuesday, January 3, will also feature the backstory of a long-serving nurse and a boy who fell from a tree.
The BAFTA-nominated programme began filming at the Queen's Medical Centre's emergency department, said to be one of the busiest A&Es in Europe, in 2021. It is the first time it has done so outside of London since its creation in 2011. In the first episode 45-year-old Kirsty has been rushed into QMC after an accident at a fun run. Nottingham born and bred Sister Lou, who discusses her 32 years working at the hospital, is part of the emergency medical team who try and ensure she does not lose her foot.Meanwhile, 93-year-old John is in resus with shortness of breath. As John is treated, the show hears from his loving wife Florence about their lives together.
Elsewhere, in the Children’s emergency department, 7-year-old Hunter is with his mum, Sarah, after he fell from a tree. As Hunter’s injuries are assessed and X-rayed, Sarah talks of the initial struggles she faced as new mum, the love she has for Hunter and the happy life she wants to give him.
