Kevin Wild, 53, was sentenced for killing Jermaine Mazlum, an 'exceptionally vulnerable' father-of-three, with a single punch in an unprovoked street attack. Mr Mazlum had previously suffered a head injury in a hit-and-run accident and tragically died after the assault.
A 53-year-old Nottingham man killed an 'exceptionally vulnerable amazing father-of-three' with one punch in an unprovoked street attack. Nottingham Crown Court was told how Kevin Wild struck Jermaine Mazlum with such force he fell backwards and hit his head on the ground, suffering what was ultimately a fatal injury.
“They had already been through the trauma of his previous head injury and what you did that day added to that and they have spoken movingly about their loss. This was an unprovoked attack, it was a sucker punch, he did not stand a chance. He was a vulnerable individual.” Miss Pritchard said: “The deceased was exceptionally vulnerable which would be obvious to anyone who knew him because he often wore a helmet due to his previous head injury and disability. Both the deceased and the defendant were residents at Mechanic’s House, which houses homeless people with complex needs.
“He described it as ‘unprovoked’. The defendant was found crouching by a low wall and was arrested. On the way to the police station he said causing the injuries he did was ‘not the plan, I did not mean to do it, I did not mean to hit him that hard’.” “Jermaine was someone who would always pick you up with his laughter and light up any room. He was so easy to talk to and would make friends anywhere he went. We will remember him as someone who had the kindest of hearts and would do anything for anybody.
In his statement, Shame Mazlum, the victim’s brother said: “Jermaine was not only my brother, he was my second heartbeat. There were only 11 months between us and my life will never be the same again.”
