Rangers look to have won a prize with their new gaffer even if Philippe Clement is light on emotion.

There would have been bemusement, too, with a hint of a hooked eyebrow given it was one of those VAR head-melt days that have become the norm. It looked harsh but there was no call for a second look and while Tavernier slicing it wide wasn’t in the script, the inevitable was only delayed. How it came about will have thrilled Clement... and driven Martindale up the wall. Dessers was cool as he tucked past George after Tom Lawrence superbly teed him up with a sweeping pass, the move having started from a Livi throw-in deep in Rangers territory.
