The culprit behind aurora is our own Sun and the solar plasma that is ejected during a magnetic event like a flare or a coronal mass ejection.
The aurora borealis, or the northern lights as they are commonly known, over Derwent water near Keswick in the Lake District Stargazers across the UK could get the chance to see the Northern Lights tonight. It comes as a huge solar storm is due to hit Earth, with the enhanced solar activity potentially supercharging the Aurora Borealis.
