Transport for the North board says current situation is 'unacceptable'
Northern transport leaders have voted to strip under-fire train operator Avanti of its West Coast Main Line route after "unacceptable" levels of service.
Today's TfN motion comes after a report to the board stated that “a continuation of the current situation is unacceptable to the North.” Pressure has been mounting on the rail operator - which transports passengers between London and key Northern cities like Liverpool and Manchester - amid large numbers of delays and cancellations.
In December, TfN wrote to Mr Harper, asking him to instruct officials to conduct a critical review into Avanti West Coast’s operation given the deteriorating service, after the operator announced a number of cuts to services over the busy Christmas period, and the Board highlighted the economic impact this was having on the region.
