Solar eclipse enthusiast Leticia Ferrer has eclipse glasses ready on Jan. 24, 2024, at her home in Farmers Branch. For more, visitDarkness soon swept over the beach. Leticia took her glasses off. For a second, she felt a pang of fear:Since then, Leticia has chased eclipses around the world.

Leticia then decided to live the life she would have wanted for her children. It was time to fly her Learjet. John had had many aspirations — to leave a legacy at his construction job, to see the world. But work consumed him, Leticia said.If John couldn’t fulfill his dreams, Leticia was determined to realize hers. So, after he died, she booked her flight.As the moment arrived, a dark shadow swept over the mountaintops, gradually extinguishing the sun. Onlookers whistled and clapped. Couples hugged. Leticia looked at the sky and smiled.I’m going to see every total solar eclipse on the face of the planet.

Doctors told her that was a risk. They didn’t know how fast the tumor might grow. But Leticia had a strange sense that if she missed the eclipse, she would die.“Do you follow your dream,” she said, remembering that time, “or do you let something like that just totally shatter your life?”As the sun’s corona burst forth from behind the moon, appearing as a searing halo, Leticia screamed and cheered with friends and family.

In her home office, she’s put up a vision board that represents her ideal life. It includes photos of Daniel, her family and her house and car, both of which she hopes to pay off.
