Organizers expected up to 50 people. But when the doors opened at 5 p.m., more than 300 people had lined up willing to wait hours in triple-digit heat for just a few minutes with an attorney.
Hundreds of people waited in the intense heat to get some free legal help Wednesday evening.
A Dallas County judge and non-profits have been holding clinics providing free legal help for people looking to reinstate their drivers’ licenses. But this was the first one in person.Dallas County Felony Court Judge Lela Mays partnered with Legal Aid Northwest Texas back in January 2020 in the hopes of helping people reinstate their driver’s licenses and state IDs.
