Currently the service is operating on a model designed in 2018, but it has been redesigning this since the pandemic, with an emphasis on factors such as demand, complexity of support and workforce challenges.
North Lanarkshire Council is working on various changes intended to improve its home care services for its users and also employees.
The service currently supports more than 2000 people, and currently multi-worker visits, in which at least two carers visit the homes of service users, are on the rise and currently sits at one-third of all visits. The council does have a long history of helping people remain in their own homes, aided significantly by community-based organisations. A more integrated approach, with the new Home Assessment Team working closely with other care workers, is in development. This will help ensure that people are thoroughly assessed, especially those with more complex or end of life needs. This also seeks to reduce pressure on hospitals by reducing readmissions.
