“With this kind of snow, I think it was worth the risk,” said Meduna.
When asked about the avalanche danger, Meduna said, “yeah, I knew that it was not high, so I felt comfortable coming out. Stayed in the trees, made conservative decisions.”
After all, they said they had read the avalanche forecast put out by the Northwest Avalanche Center before venturing out. Horne met Henry Coppolillo, a professional ski guide on the second of a two-day backcountry course. He knew all too well the joys and risks of being in the backcountry, which included avalanches.
