“Cleveland has a reasonably large Puerto Rican community,” said Daniel Shurz, senior vice president, commercial for Frontier. “We’re certain with the combination of nonstop service and low fares, we’re going to see a significant increase in demand.”
The sights of Puerto Rico, including El Morro in Old San Juan, will be more accessible to Clevelanders with new nonstop service to the U.S. territory.CLEVELAND, Ohio – Jasmin Santana used to travel back and forth to Puerto Rico a couple of times a year to see family. That stopped years ago, after Cleveland Hopkins lost nonstop service to San Juan.
Currently, fares are running between $250 and $500 round-trip for spring and summer travel, not including advanced seat assignments or luggage fees. Her mother – a native of Puerto Rico – most recently flew to San Juan in 2022. She missed her connecting flight home in Chicago – she was in a wheelchair and the person assigned to escort her to her next flight didn’t show up – so she ended up in the airport overnight.
“We are ready for tourists,” said Tardi, at a Tuesday media event held at Twisted Taino, a Puerto Rican restaurant in Parma.
