South Bay Pioneers has launched a campaign to raise $500,000 for its construction project, and break ground next year
South Bay Pioneers, a Chula Vista-based nonprofit rehab for mostly men, is working to build a sober living house for women, but it needs help.
The organization has launched a campaign to raise $500,000, which would cover most of the estimated $750,000 construction project, said Chris Naumann, the group’s board chairman.Room and board only for women in recovery in South County are scarce, according to county Behavioral Health Services. For more than 40 years, South Bay Pioneers has offered housing to men seeking a sober lifestyle at its 24-bed facility, Pioneer House, and Cody Sober Living, an 18-apartment unit building.
“These women have been living a continuous cycle of bad circumstances — jail, homelessness, broken relationships — but our goal is to provide the support they need to discover a life they could have never imagined for themselves,” Naumann said.Called the Charm’s House, the facility will be named after the late Charmain Antaramian, a Chula Vista resident who frequented the organization’s programs.
