and actions are hypocritical and reprehensible. It’s hard to see this as anything other than money over morality. The moral philosopher Adam Smith insaid it best: In moral capitalism, you can’t create shared value without shared values. Monahan has abandoned the latter in pursuit of the former.

There could be a silver lining to this merger, but only if Saudi Arabia might look into the mirror and change its attitude in regard to human rights. The kingdom has a golden opportunity to erase thecondemnations, if it would use its influence and wealth to address the conflicts in its neighborhood. For example, the kingdom could allocate some of the billions of dollars in the Public Investment Fund to broker a peace treaty with Israel and the Palestinians, infusing funds to help the Palestinians create an infrastructure in their newly established state. I have no illusions that the above suggestions will ever see the light of day. But one can hope that maybe, just maybe, the Saudis will consider reforms that will allow all its citizens to be treated with the dignity that all people deserve. And the icing on the cake could be a diffusion of tensions in the Middle East which can have a ripple effect on other nations as well.
