Giving a statement outside police headquarters, Assistant Chief Constable Peter Lawson has confirmed it was Nicola Bulley's body found in the river yesterday. He acknowledges it is"not the outcome we would have wanted" but thanks all those who have helped the investigation.
Today Suella Braverman, the home secretary, has said she is not"wholly satisfied" with the reasoning given by the force for releasing personal information about Ms Bulley. The home secretary said she raised concerns over the release of personal information about Ms Bulley with the force's chief constable.
In the statement posted to Facebook, Mr Faulding spoke of"unfair criticism" that had been levelled at him and the rest of the Specialist Group International dive team. "However, there has been unprecedented media and public interest in this case and at every turn, I was asked for an update on my own search, which I provided with only best intentions."The police will give an update on the search for Nicola Bulley in the next hour.
The force said in a statement:"An underwater search team and specialist officers have subsequently attended the scene, entered the water and have sadly recovered a body.
