Barry Langan died aged 46 after a battle with blood cancer in October last year
A Strabane teenager who lost his dad to cancer has described him as his ‘best friend’ and ‘hero’ as he is set to take to the skies in his memory.Now his son Dara, 16, is raising funds for the Anthony Nolan charity as himself and three friends take on a charity skydive in May.READ MORE: Mum’s plea over son’s eating disorder that leaves him eating just two foods
"There are so many things that I could say about him but will always remember him as one of my best friends. Strabane Sigersons youth player Dara added that although his dad had grown up playing for local rivals Urney, he was hugely supportive of his son’s own time playing GAA.“I play for Strabane Sigersons and even though he was born into and played for the local rivals Urney GAA, it showed what kind of man he was by putting my needs before his own hopes as he probably thought I would have played for Urney.“I was so glad I got to go with him.
“The weeks leading up to the skydive we will be organising different events to raise funds for this cause with help from our GAA clubs, schools - Holy Cross College Strabane, Strabane Academy and Gaelcholaiste Dhoire Dungiven as well as generous local businesses.
