It follows a ballot of health union members on whether or not to accept a new pay deal
It follows a ballot of health service workers on a new pay deal from Stormont.
The offer was won through a campaign of mounting strike actions by health workers leading up to the one-day public sector strike in Northern Ireland on January 18th, which brought the region to a standstill. Rita Devlin, Director of the RCN in Northern Ireland said: “This vote to reject the pay offer that fell short of pay parity with colleagues in England is a message from our members in Northern Ireland that they will not tolerate being treated unequally and unfairly.
She added: “The RCN remains in dispute and the RCN Northern Ireland Board, which is elected by our members, will be meeting as a matter of urgency to consider the results of our ballot and to determine the next steps. Unite's regional officer for health in Northern Ireland, Brenda Stevenson, said it marked a tremendous win for local health workers.
