NHS trusts 'deeply concerned' that mental health services funding for hospital and other secondary care staff has been pulled from Monday until 31 March 2025
Dame Clare, who is also chair of the charity Doctors in Distress, said Covid-19 has had a “catastrophic” effect on frontline staff, with some people left experiencing “almost psychotic anxiety”. “The removal of national ringfenced funding for the hubs has already created a postcode lottery for staff needing to access mental health support, and this decision will only exacerbate this issue, potentially leaving swathes of secondary care staff unable to access help from NHS Practitioner Health or their local hub.
She said: “This comes at a particularly challenging time for NHS staff, who are working flat out to deliver high-quality patient care in the face of rising pressure. Survey after survey shows low morale and high burnout among NHS staff, with stress, anxiety and depression being the top reasons for staff sickness absence.
