The second half of the NFL season kicked off with some unexpected results.
Sure, new offensive coordinator Shane Steichen will get a lot of publicity for emphasizing Melvin Gordon and the rushing game in the Chargers’ 26-11 victory against the Packers, but it’s Bradley, the defensive coordinator, who deserves most praise as the architect of the victory. By the end of the third quarter, the Packers had only 84 total yards of offense. With 10:41 to play in the fourth, Aaron Rodgers had just 73 passing yards.
The Browns constantly had to settle for field goals and went 1-5 in red zone trips. Quarterback Baker Mayfield didn’t turn the ball over, but he missed open targets late in the game. Coach Freddie Kitchens, the offensive play caller, continues to make some confounding decisions in game management. The Browns are 2-6 and it’s not crazy to think that Kitchens is a candidate to lose his job after his first season in Cleveland.
