LISBON, Portugal – The first full-electric BMW M car will be the M3, which will be built onBMW board member in charge of vehicle development Frank Weber revealed at the sidelines of the BMW 5-series and i5 International press launch here on Tuesday that the car will be a quad-motor high-performance car.
“When we launched the current M5 with all-wheel drive, there was a lot of debate. But we proved that it was possible for it to drive absolutely like an M5.”It is the first BMW to bear the Neue Klasse title since it was used in the 1960s to herald a new generation of compact saloons that came to represent the identity of the company.
Mr Weber said BMW will continue to offer a variety of powertrain for the 5-series because “it has the highest yearly mileage among all BMWs”, indicating that owners clock more kilometres than with any other BMW models.
