Julia Kelety will take the place of current Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero, who served on the appellate court until March 2022 when she was elevated to the state Supreme Court.
Gov. Gavin Newsom has nominated San Diego Superior Court Judge Julia Kelety to an open seat on the 4th District Court of Appeal in San Diego, selecting a jurist with nearly two decades on the bench to fill the vacant seat.
The 4th District Court of Appeal hears appeals in civil, criminal, probate and family law cases from San Diego and Imperial County state courts.Kelety has served as a judge in San Diego since 2003, when she was nominated to the bench by Gov. Gray Davis. She has won re-election without opposition since.
