Officials have seized 20 guns at Newark Liberty International Airport this year.
A Pennsylvania man was arrested with a loaded gun last week at a Newark Liberty International Airport security checkpoint, authorities said Monday.officers noticed the .45-caliber handgun in a backpack as it went an X-ray machine at Terminal C on Thursday, the federal agency said.The gun was the 20th seized at Newark Liberty this year. Fourteen firearms were seized last year and 12 were confiscated at the airport in 2021, the TSA said.
“Travelers need to pay more attention to the items that they have inside their carry-on bags,” said Thomas Carter, TSA’s Federal Security Director for New Jersey said in a statement. “So far this year our officers are stopping an average of two guns per month at our checkpoints. The number of travelers who are bringing their guns to the airport is alarming. And it is inexcusable. That’s not how to transport a gun for a flight. Responsible gun owners know this.
