The lockdown in Auckland, paired with other mitigation measures like contact tracing, helped lower the number of daily new cases from a peak of 83 infections in a single day in early September to about 27 infections a day presently, but the numbers have remained plateaued since the second week of September.
The country reported a total of 29 new local cases on Monday, 28 of which were detected in Auckland. Ardern, however, noted that her government will not immediately get rid of its elimination strategy, instead she outlined a plan to slowly ease the ongoing lockdown in Auckland—the epicenter of New Zealand’s current Covid outbreak.48%.
