The TV licence fee is set to rise with inflation next April after a two-year freeze. The September Consumer Price Index inflation figure is 6.7 per cent, which would see the TV licence increase by £10.65 from £159 to £169.65.
The ‘Abolish TV Licence Fees For Everyone’ petition also warned that the £159 annual fee “ can put people into debt”. The Department for Culture, Media and Sports response stated that the licence fee will remain for this Charter, however, it added: “The BBC's funding model faces major challenges due to changes in the way people consume media.”
