Houston Texans new coordinator Bobby Slowik speaks to the press during a press conference Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at NRG Stadium in Houston.When you listen to Bobby Slowik speak, it’s not difficult to tell why DeMeco Ryans plucked him from Kyle Shanahan’s staff to lead the Texans offense for the foreseeable future.
“Fast, physical and tough,” said Slowik, whose offensive principles come from the Shanahan system. “It starts from there. We always said this when I was in San Francisco. and I believe to my core, our character should show through when you watch our offense, and I believe that was true when we were in San Francisco, and I believe that’s going to be true here.”
Trey Lance, who started the season, suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2. Jimmy Garoppolo then came in and started 10 games before he suffered an injury that kept him out for the remainder of the year. Garoppolo remains an option for the Texans, and he’s someone whom they’ll monitor. Slowik worked directly with Garoppolo the past two seasons, and the veteran would be familiar with his system having playing under it for the past five years.
Carr is averaging $37.5 million per year. Garoppolo’s market, league sources believe, will also likely cost somewhere above $30 million per year.
