Rice’s is meanwhile expected to continue growing, with a $300 million physical expansion of the campus in the works. Last year, Rice announced a five-year plan to increase its student body to 9,000 from 7,500., which will support endowments, research initiatives, campus enhancements, new programs and facilities, the hiring of more faculty and expansion of the student body.
He expanded the school’s faculty by nearly 20 percent, strengthened collaborations with the Texas Medical Center, launched a student-professional partnership and led initiatives to boost research and recruiting efforts in China and India, according to the university. DesRoches also launched a new data science minor and established an online master’s program in computer science.
