Gary Godden is a former police officer and said he will serve with 'impartiality and integrity'
Nottinghamshire's new police and crime commissioner Gary Godden vowed to protect the people of Nottingham as he was sworn into his new role at Nottingham Castle . Former police officer and Labour politician Godden, 55, replaces Conservative Caroline Henry, whom he beat by more than 40,000 votes.
He recited: "I, Gary Godden, do hereby declare that I accept the office of Police and Crime Comissioner for Nottinghamshire. In making this declaration I solemnly and sincerely promise that during my term in office I will serve all the people of Nottinghamshire . I will act with integrity and diligence in my role and to the best of my abilities, will execute the duties of my office to ensure the police are able to cut crime and protect the public.
He said: "This ten-month campaign has been the longest job interview. There's been a lot of ups and downs and a lot of pressure. But I do this with honour and pride. I look forward to working with the chief and her team and with agencies locally, regionally and nationally. The job is to prevent and reduce crime and commission services to support victims and the needs of our communities.
