New Lord of the Rings movie The War of the Rohirrim gets an official release date! It hits theaters April 12th, 2024.
The upcoming Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim anime now officially has a release date. Based on the epic fantasy novels by author J. R. R. Tolkien, Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy brought the world of Middle-earth to life like never before, introducing audiences to Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, and a host of other races and creatures.
While much remains unknown about the highly-anticipated film, The War of the Rohirrim is expected to take place hundreds of years before the events of Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, telling the previously unexplored story of the origin of Helm's Deep and its founder, Helm Hammerhand. The film is directed by Kenji Kamiyama from a screenplay by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, with additional writing credits going to Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews.
Although much remains unknown about the upcoming The Lord of the Rings anime, a concrete release date is sure to give fans something to look forward to, at the very least. Given the reverence of the Lord of the Rings property, it's clear that the directors and producers behind The War of the Rohirrim are committed to taking as much time as they need to deliver something worthy of Tolkien's source material and avid fanbase.
After The Hobbit trilogy largely failed to live up to the expectations set by Jackson's original films, the pressure is on for The War of the Rohirrim to deliver a compelling story in Middle-earth. The fact that the upcoming film will be animated also presents an opportunity to tell a Lord of the Rings story in new and exciting ways, something that could prove to be a hit with viewers.
