A study projects New Jersey could fall short by more than 100,000 hospital beds

New Jersey’s hospitals are racing to add beds and increase staff as the state girds for an expected surge in coronavirus patients in the coming weeks that threatens to overwhelm its health-care system.

State health officials are examining reopening closed hospitals and using college dorms, medical wards and nursing homes to expand capacity.
