Juneyao Airlines will operate three flights a week between Manchester and the Chinese city
A new direct route between Manchester Airport and Shanghai is set to launch this summer. Chinese airline Juneyao Airlines will operate three weekly services between Manchester and the Chinese city.
The flights are scheduled to commence from July 3. Flights are expected to operate every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday between Manchester Airport to Shanghai Pudong Airport, according to ChinaDaily.com.cn. The new service means there will be 15 non-stop flights to China from Manchester every week this summer. On Friday the Juneyao Airlines also announced that it is launching a new direct flight between Shanghai and Brussels, again starting in July, as part of its expanding services.Manchester Airport said discussions with Juneyao are ongoing and that it aims to be able to formally announce the route next week ahead of tickets going on sale.
The announcement of the new service comes after Hainan Airlines revealed last year that it would operate daily flights between Manchester Airport and Beijing this summer. The service currently runs four times a week, but from June to September 2024 the service is set to increase, with passengers being able to travel to and from Beijing on any day of the week.
In 2016 Manchester became the first UK hub outside of London to gain a direct flight to mainland China when Hainan Airlines launched its service to Beijing.
