A new strain of coronavirus known as JN.1 has been found in the UK, as well as countries across Europe and the USA
A newly detected strain of coronavirus is feared to be “more transmissible” as it continues to spread through several countries.
Thomas Russo, professor and chief of infectious diseases at the University at Buffalo in New York, told Prevention.com: “There is some data that suggest JN.1’s parent BA.2.86 may be more transmissible than previous variants. Since JN.1 is a derivative of BA.2.86, there is a concern that it may be more transmissible.
In an open letter to the public, Dr Louise Herron, Deputy Director of Public Health at the Public Health Agency said: "If you are ‘at risk’, either due to older age, a health condition, medical treatment or are pregnant, you are at increased risk of becoming seriously unwell if you contract influenza or Covid-19.
"The programme is being implemented using a combination of GPs, community pharmacies and Health and Social Care Trusts, with the majority of vaccinations expected to be administered by GPs and community pharmacies.
