Traffic counts reveal the impact of the northern section of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway that opened in July.
MONTOURSVILLE – The northern section of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway is taking through traffic off other roads, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation official says.“confirms what we thought was going to happen,” Eric High, the PennDOT district executive in Montoursville said.
On Route 405 north of Northumberland Borough the total daily traffic volume has dropped about 40 percent from 13,000 to 8,000 and the number of trucks has decreased from 3,100 to 800 or approximately 75 percent. The preliminary estimates are based on traffic counts conducted last October, he said. Additional counts are anticipated later this year to further assess the effects of the thruway, High said.
High and Garrett expect greater changes in traffic volumes when the CSVT’s southern section is opened in 2027.
