A new statistical model from imperialcollege suggests tight restrictions will need to continue for months to control coronavirus -- 'so tight that they will be economically and socially very damaging.' The alternative: 2.2 million Americans die.

"The take home message of that Imperial College model is that in order to keep from overwhelming the health care system with severe cases, we are going to have to have very tight controls in place on transmission through social distancing. And those controls are going to be so tight that they will be economically and socially very damaging," says"There's no really good option that doesn't involve at least one of those two problems," he added.
"This is where we were going, this is what we had in mind," President Trump said."This is the next logical step." One option they considered was a relatively modest restriction on social activity. It combined home isolation of cases, home quarantine for household members, and social distancing for only those over 70. This approach cut deaths in half and reduced peak healthcare demand by two-thirds, they found.
"It is likely such measures — most notably, large scale social distancing — will need to be in place for many months, perhaps until a vaccine becomes available," researchersaid in a written statement provided by the college."The effects on countries and the world will be profound."
