Mikel Arteta described the controversial decision to award Newcastle's goal against Arsenal as 'disgraceful' and 'embarrassing'
Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have both taken aim at Arsenal after they released a statement calling for the PGMOL to urgently address the standard of refereeing in the Premier League.
But Neville, reacting to the statement on social media, believes the Gunners, just like Liverpool a few weeks ago, should be doing their complaining in private, and Howard Webb should be telling them to get on with it. “Arsenal’s letter and even the Liverpool statement a few weeks ago are wrong. Do it privately . If I was Howard Webb I would stop apologising to them and get on with it. Managers and players make far more mistakes than refs!”
“I covered the game last night and on the back of Mikel Arteta’s interview, I said I loved it, and the reason I said that was because far too often managers before and after games just speak in clichés and don’t really tell us how they feel. “Put yourself in Howard Webb positions and Var, they can’t conclusively know if that ball was in or out. And the on-field decision was that the game had to to carry on so they had to go with that.
