Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivers a speech, branding Hamas as 'barbarians' and stating that Israel will not agree to a ceasefire with the group.
Mr Netanyahu , speaking in English, begins by branding Hamas 'barbarians' who are looking to 'destroy all that we cherish and usher in a world of fear and darkness'.'This is a turning point,' he says.'A turning point for leaders and, nations. It is time for all of us to decide if we are willing to fight for a future of hope and promise or surrender to tyranny and terror,' he says.'Rest assured, Israel will fight.
He says Hamas will use human shields and hide in hospital basements, and that the group is 'preventing civilians from leaving' areas Israel has instructed to be evacuated. Turning to a ceasefire, he says Israel will not agree to one, just as the US would not after Pearl Harbour or 9/11. 'Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities... calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism, to surrender to barbarism.
