The plans have been very controversial
Neighbours in a Nottinghamshire village are resigned to the passing of plans for hundreds of homes to replace a popular green space. Avant Homes and The White Hills Park Trust are proposing to build 470 homes on the former Bramcote School playing fields off Coventry Lane in Bramcote.
The planning officer who recommended the approval said any potential environmental losses and infrastructure strains would be outweighed by benefits like the provision of varied housing and the funding of a replacement secondary school at Bramcote College through the land's sale. Despite this statement, locals were unsure if the financial contributions from the developer, which will total more than £2 million, would make up for the loss of the well-used green area.
The developer initially submitted plans for 473 homes, but this was reduced to 470 after concerns over a lack of open space and “cramped” housing. In response to early concerns, the developer made a number of changes, including retaining hedgerows, increasing the number of green corridors throughout the development and widening access roads.
"There's probably a bit too much housebuilding going on here already with the other home near the Crematorium and Field Farm. It feels inevitable but I just hope they don't take any more of the green space after this for a while."
