A new Navy study of hundreds of sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt found that 1 in 5 who tested positive for antibodies were asymptomatic, while the majority of the sailors only had mild COVID-19 symptoms.

The study conducted jointly with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also indicated the possibility that a small number of the tested sailors may have some form of immunity to the novelThe carrier left Guam last week, after a 10-week interruption of its deployment to the western Pacific Ocean as the ship's crew of 4,865 sailors was quarantined on the island following an outbreak aboard the ship.

"This finding may give us an early glimpse into actual immune protection against COVID-19 in young adults, having these intense environmental exposures aboard the ship," said Dan Payne, the CDC researcher who was the lead author of the study."We don't really know for sure that this results in our findings are definitively indicative of immunity, however they're a promising indicator of some degree of immunity," said Payne.
