Protests following the death of George Floyd, a black man who pleaded that he couldn't breathe while he was held down with a knee by a Minneapolis police officer, have spread nationwide. Follow here for the latest updates.
On Monday evening, police in Minneapolisabout someone trying to pass a counterfeit bill at Cup Foods, a neighborhood grocery store.
A pair of officers located the man, George Floyd, who was at that point inside the car and who police said"physically resisted" the officers when ordered to get out. Officers handcuffed Floyd, who"appeared to be suffering medical distress," according to police.A video circulated on social media shows two officers and Floyd on the ground –– one of them with his knee on Floyd's neck.
After several minutes of pleading with the officer, Floyd appeared motionless, his eyes shut, his head against the pavement. He died at a hospital a short time later, police said.
