A romance scam victim is sharing a message warning others who suspect they may be involved with a romance scammer.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -We close out our coverage of National Consumer Protection Week with a cautionary tale from a local romance scam victim. This Portage County woman is on a fixed income but has lost at least $12,000 to someone she thought was in love with her.
She has a message for those who think they are in a romantic relationship with someone they’ve met online but have never spoken to. “If you had a thief break into your house, you wouldn’t give them everything and beg them to stay. But that’s what we’re doing when we give them access to our banking information and everything else,” she said.
The victim, who’d like to remain anonymous, sent him thousands in gift cards, five hundred dollars at a time.
