The 14th annual observance of the Nat Turner Slave Uprising is being held in Newark on Monday at 5 p.m. at Nat Turner Park, 171 Muhammad Ali Avenue in Newark.
The event is being sponsored by the The People’s Organization for Progress and the Friends of Nat Turner Park.
The entrance to the park is located at the intersection of Muhammad Ali Avenue and Jeliff Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.Sunday marked the 192st anniversary of the Nat Turner Uprising, also known as the Southampton Insurrection which began on August 21,1831 in Southampton County, Virginia.
