Carteret Mayor Daniel J. Reiman pleaded guilty to obstructing passage of other vehicles.
Reiman pleaded guilty last month to obstructing passage to other vehicles in Plainsboro Municipal Court, where the case was transferred to avoid conflict. He had been charged with careless driving.Reiman, who previously said he swerved to avoid a dog in the road and did not agree with the careless driving ticket, said Wednesday that the court saw there was no merit for careless driving or even a moving violation.
“Ultimately it is was agreed to blocking the flow of traffic since the car was involved in a and technically blocked the roadway for a small period of time,” the mayor said. Police body-worn camera footage of the aftermath shows Reiman’s car on its left side on Carteret Avenue near Taylor Avenue, at about 10:15 p.m. on Dec. 28, 2021.
Reiman is still in the vehicle when police officers arrive, and they help him squeeze out of the sunroof. He is not injured, and stays on the scene as police and fire officials investigate and ultimately tow the car out of the road, the footage shows. NJ Advance Media obtained the footage, from all officers at the scene, through an Open Public Records Act. Carteret police said they made visual and audio redactions of some parts of the footage, like license plates and when it showed citizens or people’s personal information or medical situations.
