An Essex County man was arrested Tuesday after authorities said he robbed a Taco Bell’s drive-thru window at gunpoint. Armed with a gun, Deion Nance, 25, of Newark, allegedly drove up to the window of a Taco Bell on Broad Street in the city at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday and demanded cash from a restaurant employee, Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara announced in a release Wednesday. The employee handed over $176 in cash, and Nance drove away from the scene, authorities said.

Police arrested Nance on robbery and weapons possession charges after pulling him over on Route 280, O’Hara said. “I am thankful that our officers quickly observed the suspect’s vehicle, which had been reported carjacked at gunpoint in Harrison, and acted bravely to apprehend an armed robber before he could do any more serious harm,” O’Hara said. “Our Violence Reduction Initiative is proving successful with our Newark Police serving vigilantly to protect Newark residents and businesses.”Thank you for relying on us to provide the local news you can trust.
