A 38-year-old man was killed early Thursday when he was struck by an SUV while walking on Interstate 287 in Somerset County, authorities said. Alfred Hernandez, of Morristown, was struck about 2:30 a.m. near milepost 16 in Bridgewater, according to State Police. A preliminary investigation showed the SUV was traveling in the highway’s left lane and struck Hernandez while he was on on foot, police said. It was unclear why Hernendez was walking on the highway.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was not injured. The crash remains under investigation, state police said.
