'Cheeky and pleasant lad' was stabbed to death aged 24 by his 47-year-old girlfriend Natalie Bennett
The auntie of Kasey Anderson says she now struggles to get the bus home knowing he will not be waiting for her at her stop after he was stabbed to death by his girlfriend.
"Before Kasey was taken from me, I loved my life. I loved to come home knowing I had him to come home to.Ms Anderson recalled taking Kasey on his "first holiday" to Tenerife, where his grandad "taught him to swim" and he "met dolphins and parrots". She added of a trip to Disneyland Paris with her then four-year-old nephew: "I still think of the excitement in his eyes.
"I will never again see his beautiful big smiling face or feel his arm swinging round my shoulder. I will never see him become a dad and have a family of his own. Many of his answers were said to have been "incoherent", with the casualty left vomiting such were the severity of his wounds. The call handler could hear Bennett's voice in the background though and asked to speak to her instead, at which point she "effectively took over the call".
"The slash wounds may have been superficial in nature and the stab to the leg may be of a shallow depth, but together they demonstrate a concerted attack which provides the background for the fatal wound to the chest. It is our case that Natalie Bennett lied to the operator because she knew full well what she had done and had no excuse for it."
Bennett claimed during her trial that she had stabbed Mr Anderson in-self defence once after he had attacked her. She told the jury from the stand: "He’s kicked me and I’ve flew into there, into the kitchen, and I’ve peed myself." On Friday, Mr Reiz outlined Bennett's "remorse because of the loss of someone she loved" and added: "What happened was an argument fuelled by substances, which resulted in the tragic circumstances in this case. There are powerful mitigating circumstances.
"She has lived a chaotic lifestyle, but this is a woman who has four children - two of whom are very young. Her incarceration will no doubt be felt by them.
